My Work

Harm Reduction
Safe Needle Disposal Bins
The Harm Reduction Committee that I am apart of through Northern Health had the opportunity to apply for a "Community Wellness and Harm Reduction Grant". There was often complaints from the general public, city workers and peers about the lack of safe sharps disposal in the community. These bins had been used in other parts of the Northern Health Authority with good results as they are safe and can be placed throughout the community to allow great access by all members of the community.

Virtual Care
OAT
Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) can be a challenge to access living in a small remote community. Being able to connect with a physician virtually has allowed  patients to have a wider variety of treatment available in their home community. Prior to 2017 there was only one physician in Kitimat who could provide OAT prescriptions to patients which could result in longer wait times or the need to travel out of town for treatment. In 2017 Kitimat Community Health had the opportunity to contract services for OAT through the Alliance Clinic.  In conjunction with Dr. Alan Brookstone and onsite clinicians we are able to offer this treatment in the community of Kitimat. As our clinics are run virtually we saw little to no disruption in services due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
